Lore & Background

The Luminary's story is deeply intertwined with the history of Erdrea and the cycle of light and darkness. Originally born as a prince of Dundrasil, he survived an attack by monsters led by Mordegon, who was responsible for the kingdom's destruction. Found floating down a river by Chalky, he was raised by Amber until his coming-of-age ceremony revealed his true origins. The mark on his hand proves his identity as the Luminary. After escaping King Carnelian's dungeons with Erik, the party learns that Mordegon has corrupted Yggdrasil, stealing the Sword of Light and plunging the world into darkness. In a twist involving time travel via the Tower of Lost Time, the Luminary confronts the truth: his predecessor Erdwin was betrayed by mage Morcant (Mordegon), who absorbed Calasmos' powers. Serenica, Erdwin's lover, became the Timekeeper to seal Calasmos in Erdwin's Lantern. The Luminary ultimately defeats the awakened Dark One, Calasmos, and is granted the title of "Erdrick" by Yggdragon, an ancient dragon whose body transformed into Yggdrasil.

In Their Own Story

The narrative begins with the kingdom of Dundrasil invaded and destroyed. As an infant, the protagonist survives and is found by Chalky in Cobblestone. Raised by Amber, he discovers his heritage during a coming-of-age ceremony and travels to Heliodor to meet King Carnelian. Accused of being evil, he is thrown into dungeons where he meets Erik. Together they escape, joined by mages Veronica and Serena, entertainer Sylvando, exiled princess Jade, and former king Rab. The party reaches Yggdrasil's heart to claim the Sword of Light but is intercepted by Carnelian (possessed by Mordegon) and his retainers Jasper and Hendrik. Mordegon steals the sword, corrupting it into the Sword of Shadows, absorbs Yggdrasil's heart, and destroys the tree. Separated from his party, the Luminary returns to Cobblestone, now a refuge led by Carnelian and Hendrik. After reuniting with most companions (Veronica perished saving them), they reclaim the Luminary's power and forge a new Sword of Light to defeat Jasper and Mordegon. Using Erdwin's Lantern and the Tower of Lost Time, they travel back to prevent Mordegon from stealing the sword, but this allows Calasmos to awaken. The party defeats Calasmos, restores Yggdrasil, and the Luminary entrusts his mark to Serenica, who returns to the past to reunite with Erdwin.

The character starts with amnesia regarding their past but grows into a leader who gathers a diverse party: Erik (thief), Veronica and Serena (mages), Sylvando (entertainer), Jade (princess/martial artist), Rab (sage/king), and Hendrik (knight). Key gameplay moments include the battle system which features no random encounters, showing all enemies on the overworld. The Luminary's journey involves overcoming persecution, rescuing companions, and confronting Mordegon and Calasmos. In the final act, the player utilizes the power of time travel to alter history, preventing the death of Veronica and defeating the Dark One before he can fully corrupt Yggdrasil.
